The new Slovak film My Husbands‘ Women / Ženy môjho muža (a.k.a. Flowers of Sakura) will have its international premiere at the International film festival Shanghai in China, held June 13 – 21, 2009.
  Broken Promise awarded in Los Angeles
The feature Slovak film Broken Promise / Nedodržaný sľub was granted with the main prize of the Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival in USA in the fiction film category.
On May 7, 2009 the Board of the Audiovisual Fund elected Fund's first director – Mr. Martin Šmatlák.
In compliance with the Law on the Audiovisual Fund (no. 516/2008 Coll.) the Board appointed the director of the Fund for 5 year office term, starting as of the day of the election.

Slovak film SOUL AT PEACE by Vlado Balko has been selected for the Official Selection – Competition at 44. Karlovy Vary International Film Festival 2009 (July 3 - 11).
  Strawberry Wine in Polish Cinemas
Polish-Slovak coproduction film Strawberry Wine (dir. Dariusz Jablonski, PL – SK 2007) will be released in Polish Cinemas, a year after the Slovak cinema release (April 10, 2008). The film will be premiered on Saturday May 2, 2009 in Jasliska (border town in Small Beskydy, Low Tatras), the location where most of the shooting took place.
  Board Members Appointed to Slovakia's New Audiovisual

On March 30, 2009, Marek Maďarič, Minister of Culture of the Slovak Republic, appointed 9 professionals from the Slovak audiovisual industry who will begin their six-year term as board members of the newly-established Audiovisual Fund. The Fund is aimed at the promotion, support and development of audiovisual culture and industry ofthe Slovak Republic.

European Cinema from New Wave to New Wave, held April 16 – 23, 2009 in New York, USA, is a review of European cinematography, organised by the Czech Center New York in Bohemian National Hall. Slovak cinematography will be represented by two Slovak films: Blind Loves (d. Juraj Lehotský, 2008) and Music (d. Juraj Nvota, 2008) – both in the section DISAPPEARING ACT.
