Slovak Films again in Cran-Gevrier

The festival of Slovak and Central European Film, which takes place in the French town Cran-Gevrier, presented the recent Slovak production. This year, during November 19 - 25, it was represented by both successful Slovak major productions and co-productions: Blind Loves by Juraj Lehotský, Cooking History by Peter Kerekes (both documentaries), Soul at Peace by Vlado Balko and I Served the King of England by Jiří Menzel. The festival also screened documentaries from the 1989 and Velvet Revolution era: Flight Report 89 - 90 by Ilja Ruppeldt and All together... (In a Slovak Way) by Eva Štefankovičová. The French audience had a chance to see the student films of VŠMU, as well.

The opening film of the festival was Soul at Peace, presented by Vlado Balko, the director. Viera Ďuricová, the deputy manager of the Slovak Film Insitute, the co-organizer of the festival and two students were also present. The audience award went to the Slovak film Soul at Peace and to the animation film Catch Him! representing the student films. This year's edition of the festival continues in the tradition of the previous five editions of the Festival of Slovak films, which was held in Cran-Gevrier since 1995 as a biennale.
