Slovakia and the Creative Europe Programme

Based on the Regulation No. 1295/2013 of the European Parliament and of the Council of December 11, 2013, the Creative Europe Programme was established valid since January 1, 2014. It is a new generation of supporting scheme for the years 2014-2020, aimed at supporting European cultural and creative industry sectors. The budget is 1, 462 billion and the Programme has two basic strands: Culture Sub-programme and MEDIA Sub-programme. A new cross-sectoral strand will support policy cooperation, transversal measures and the new financial guarantee facility, which will be operational from 2016.

Culture Sub-programme

The objectives are to support international exchange of cultural and creative works and to support activities that provide artists/cultural professionals with skills, competences and know-how. The aim of these is to contribute to strengthening the cultural and creative sectors, including encouraging adaptation to digital technologies, testing innovative approaches to audience development and testing of new business and management models.

The basic supporting scheme simplified the strands into the following 4 categories:

1. European cooperation projects
2. Literary Translation
3. European Networks
4. European Platforms

MEDIA Sub-programme

The objectives are to strive for a stronger European audiovisual sector, reflecting and respecting Europe’s cultural identity and heritage, to increase the circulation of European audiovisual works inside and outside the European Union, to strengthen the competitiveness of the European audiovisual sector by facilitating access to financing and promoting use of digital technologies and to foster media literacy.

The support from the MEDIA Sub-programme is intended for independent producers, distributors, event organisers (trainings, festivals, markets) and other companies operating within audiovisual sector in the following areas:

- training of professionals
- project development (single, slate, videogames)
- distribution („selective“ scheme, „automatic“ scheme, sales agents, TV Programming)
- promotion (festivals, access to markets)
- audience development
- cinema networks

Each strand consists of financing support schemes which operate on the basis of either selective or automatic support. Administration of individual programmes is connected to their respective deadlines.
