The Sun in a Net 2019 – Nominations
Slovak Film and Television Academy (SFTA) will once again honour the most remarkable films and creative accomplishment of Slovak cinema. Slovak National Film Awards The Sun in a Net 2018 will be announced Friday, April 5, 2019 during the Gala ceremony, broadcasted live on TV channel Jednotka (RTVS).
The Academy has nominated 14 films that will contend for prizes in 16 different categories.
Czech-Slovak co-production Toman (d. Ondřej Trojan), about the real-life contradictory person who headed the Department of Foreign Intelligence in the 1940s, vies for 14 awards, while The Interpreter by Martin Šulík scored 12 nominations two of which are in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category. Insect by Jan Švankmajer and Jan Palach by Robert Sedláček close up the four nominees in Best Fiction Film category.
Turning to the other main categories, nominees for Best Documentary Film include Occupation 1968 by five directors and produced by Peter Kerekes, The Last Self-Portrait (d. Marek Kuboš) and Válek (d. Patrik Lančarič). Fifi Fatale (d. Mária Kralovič), Mimi and Lisa - Christmas Lights Mystery (d. Katarína Kerekesová, Ivana Šebestová) and Monster by Martin Snopek are running for Best Animation Award.
For the first time this year, The Slovak National Film Awards ceremony will be held prior to the Slovak Film Week (April 9 – 15, 2019) at Kino Lumière, Bratislava, and will subsequently be shown in towns all around Slovakia. The showcase will feature consists of films premiered in 2018, as well as The Sun in a Net nominees and winners.
