15 Slovak films at IFF Febiofest Bratislava

30th edition of International Film Festival Febiofest Bratislava (March 15 – 19, 2023) starts in two days with as many as 15 Slovak films in the programme. Many of them will be shown in premiere.

Five Slovak films are up Best Short Film of the Central Europe region award, including: Asterión (d. Francesco Montagner), We Have to Survive: Fukushima! (d. Tomáš Krupa), I am Opening the Door and I Donʼt Know Whatʼs Wrong (d. Kristián Grupač), Strigov (d. Barbora Berezňáková), and Revelation of John (d. Andrej Kolenčík).

For the first time, the festival also has a competition for the best feature-length film coming from the Central Europe. Two Slovak film were selected, both will be presented shortly after their premiere at Berlinale: She – Hero directed by Mira Fornay and Notes from Eremocene directed by Viera Čákanyová.

In the Heart of Europe – Out of Competition will showcase another four films in Slovak premiere: Ordinary Failures (d. Cristina Grosan), Kapr Code (d. Lucie Králová), The Shift (d. Jaro Vojtek), and Unbalanced (d. Zuzana Piussi), while short animation Criss Cross (r. Nina Rybárová, Tomáš Rybár) will celebrate its world premiere. Bandits for a Ballad (d. Vladimír Morávek) and Money and Happiness (d. Ana Nedeljković, Nikola Majdak, Jr.) were selected for section called Limitless.

Slovak classic Before Tonight Is Over directed by Peter Solan is part of The Mirror of the Past section.
