My Dog Killer is the Slovak National Nomination for the Oscar's Best Foreign Language Film

The Slovak Film and Television Academy decided to nominate the film MY DOG KILLER (orig. Môj pes Killer) by Mira Fornay as the Slovak entry for the Best Foreign Language Film of the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) Awards, also known as the Oscars

SFTA members selected the film from among 12 eligible titles according to the criteria of the AMPAS:

Colette (director: M. Cieslar).

The majority of votes (34 %) went to the successful and awarded My Dog Killer, the second feature by Mira Fornay, which premiered at Rotterdam IFF earlier this year and received the Hivos Tiger Award. Since then it was granted with several other awards and was presented at festivals world-wide, and is in the selection of the European Film Award, as well. The film's participation was support by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund.

The Cannes-premiered winner of the 3rd prize - Pandy (2013) by Matúš Vizár, also qualified to compete in the Academy's Best Short Animation category, by receiving the Grand Prix at Melbourne IFF. Last year, the animation short The Last Bus qualified in the same category.

MIRA FORNAY (*1977)
  Studied fiction directing at the Academy of Performing Arts (FAMU) in Prague, where she graduated with her diploma film Small Untold Secrets. She also holds a diploma from the National Film and Television School in the United Kingdom, where she completed her studies with the film Alžbeta. Her first feature, Foxes (2009) premiered in the International Critics’ Week section of Venice IFF. Her film premiered at 42nd Rotterdam IFF, where it received the Hivos Tiger Award.
