Broken Promise will compete for Oscar 2010 Best Foreign Language Film

Broken Promise

The Slovak Film and Television Academy (SFTA) decided to nominate the film Broken Promise (dir. Jiri Chlumsky) as the Slovak entry for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award 2010 .

 

 

 

SFTA members selected the film from among 10 titles eligible for the nomination according to the criteria of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences:

Gypsy Virgin (dir. D. Rapoš),

My Husband´s Women (dir. I. Vojnár),
Osadné (dir. M. Škop, documentary),
Small Celebrations (dir. Z. Tyc),
Soul at Peace (dir. V. Balko).

Broken Promise is based on a true story of a Jewish boy, Martin Friedmann, born in 1926 in Western Slovakia, who escaped deportation to a concentration camp thanks to his extraordinary soccer talent and some coincidently favorable circumstances.

Since its world premiere at the Los Angeles Jewish Film Festival ( Main festival award for the best fiction film), Broken Promise has participated at numerous international film festivals, incl:
Shanghai IFF 2009,
Karlovy Vary IFF 2009 ,
Festroia IFF 2009 - Silver Dolphin Award for the Best Actor (Samuel Spišák).
