What’s Slovak at Alpe Adria Trieste 2011?

The 22nd edition of the Alpe Adria Film Festival in Trieste (January 20 – 26, 2011) presents an interesting and broad selection of Slovak films. The tribute section of the festival is devoted to the works of the renowned Slovak filmmaker Dušan Hanák, who will present 4 of his films in person - 322, Obrazy starého sveta, Ružové sny a Papierové hlavy

Within the Animation Programme, Katarína Kerekesová will present her animation musical Stones (2010).

From January 19 – 21, 2011 will welcome 16 film projects in development for the co-production forum When East Meets West, which brings together producers, film funds representatives, commissioning editor, sales agents and film experts from both regions for a pitching session and professional program designed to investigate both Eastern and Western audiovisual panorama through round tables, presentations and case studies. Slovak film project Velvet Terrorists by director/producer Peter Kerekes was chosen to represent Slovakia. Kerekes´ latest film Cooking History (AT – SK – CZ, 2009) was presented in the Alpe Adria programme in 2010.

In addition, Slovakia will be present in the EASTWEEK PROJECT - New Talents, Great Masters, organized in collaboration with the Central European Initiative, this project will involve schools and academies in a series of masterclasses and meetings with some of the cinematographic protagonists from these countries. EASTWEEK will welcome students from the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (VŠMU). Three students will present their works, VŠMU will be represented by Mária Ferenčuhová Ridzoňová, vice-dean for international relations of the Film and Television Faculty.

This short documentary depicts the portrait of an old man - the measurer of water, who overcomes time with his active life. Every morning, Mr. Kraus gets up at 6 a. m. and measures the state of Danube river at a small hydrometeorological station in the municipality of Devín. The story reveals the power of a man and the being hidden in the movement... because one can never step in the same river twice.

Real Men (fiction film)

Various faces of love in the main characters trinity Adam-Teresa-Ivan gets complicated by involving Austrian couple Jens and Lota, coming to re-call there honeymoon atmosphere of the good times gone. The film is a portrait of emotional instability and frustration of the people coming from different cultures. Their sense of home, background, upbringing and morals were influenced by different social systems, but when searching for love, they find it common dealing with the same problems.
