The Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia continues!

The Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia 2015 is moving from its first stop in Melbourne to Sydney and then continues to its final destination Perth

This year´s edition in Sydney (Oct 21 - 25, 2015) expands to a five day showcase of the most critically acclaimed and popular box office hits from both countries.
Within the manifold programme following Slovak feature films will be screened: co-production title Fair Play (d. Andrea Sedláčková) – a story which deals with the sensitive topic of doping in sport under the former regime; In Silence (d. Zdeněk Jiráský) – a stylised docu-drama on the lives of Jewish musicians in Czechoslovakia and Germany who were persecuted during the Holocaust; the Slovak box-office hit 38 (d. Daniel Dangl, Lukáš Zednikovič) - a documentary film on the recently deceased ice-hockey legend, Pavol Demitra; a fairy tale both for youngsters and grown-ups Seven Ravens (d. Alice Nellis) inspired by a famous Slovak folk story of courage, perseverance, power of language and true love. The lovers of archive films shoul not miss Juraj Jakubisko´s Sitting on a Branch I Am Fine - taking place right after the end of WW II. depicting three homeless and lonely people in their very own ways trying to fulfill their dreams of happiness.

Each feature-film in the Festival´s programme is accompannied by an interestnig short film, seven of them from Slovakia: What We Did Before We Drank Cocoa Together (d. Aramisova), Fongopolis (d. Joanna Kożuch), Force of Attraction (d. Eva Sekerešová), Green Line (d. Martina Buchelová), Half babka (d. Jasmine Elsen), Kuku (d. Henrich Žucha) and Love (d. Maja Brnušáková).

This year´s volume the festival presents a special selection of the best of young cinematic talent from the graduating students of the Czech and Slovak Film Academies FAMU, UTB and FTF VŠMU. The pick of films from the Slovak Academy of Perfomring Arts (VŠMU) includes titles: The Neverending Story Of Grandpa and Grandma (d. Petra Albertyová), Circle Pit (d. Martin Machalik), Family – The Essence of Life (r. Marta Prokopová), Shadows (d.Zuzana Žiaková), Half babka (d. Jasmine Elsen), Force of Attraction (d. Eva Sekerešová) and Fongopolis (d.Joanna Kożuch).

For the first time, the festival extends also to Perth (November 19 - 22, 2015). Three Slovak feature and two shorts films will be screened within four days: Seven Ravens (d. Alice Nellis), 38 (d. Daniel Dangl, Lukáš Zednikovič), Fair Play (d. Andrea Sedláčková) and the short pre-films: Kuku (d. Henrich Žucha), Force of Attraction (d. Eva Sekerešová).

Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia is organized by Iksima, in cooperation with production company ARINASlovak Film Institute, and Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia Inc. (CaSFFA) with financial support of the Slovak Audiovisual Fund. Partners of the event are VŠMU, Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Canberra, Slovak Tourist Board.
