Slovak Films Visiting Australia

The Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia 2015 extends its programme into three cities - Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. The first festival part will be held from Sept 16 to 25, 2015 at the Australian centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) in Melbourne (CASFFA). The festival was established in 2013 to showcase Slovak and Czech films in Australia, and its program aims to present the best works of both the archive treasures and recent film production.
This year´s Melbourne edition celebrates "yesterday’s tomorrows, today" with the theme of “projection”. The programme hosts five Slovak feature films as well as collection of Slovak short films produced in 2014.

Two Slovak film classics will be presented in their digitally restored versions from new DCP prints. The first one is Dušan Hanák´s Pictures of the Old World – a portrait of nine old men and women leading hardscrabble, eccentric, lonely lives far removed from the hurly-burly of the modern world. The second one is the visually compelling Organ (d. Štefan Uher) depicting Slovak Republic during World War II.
Further Slovak feature films shown are recent titles produced last year: the Slovak box-office hit 38 (d. Daniel Dangl, Lukáš Zednikovič) – a documentary film on the recently deceased ice-hockey legend, Pavol Demitra; the fiction feature debut by award-winning documentarist Jaro Vojtek Children - presenting an authentic picture of damaged family relations; and Fair Play (d. Andrea Sedláčková) - a story of 18-year-old sprinter struggling for better life.

In addition, a selection of short films will be freely accessible on the touchscreens in the ACMI Australian Mediatheque every day except Sep 25. Six short Slovak films will be introduced within the Czech & Slovak Short Films section: Fongopolis (d. Joanna Kożuch), Force of Attraction (d. Eva Sekerešová), Green Line (d. Martina Buchelová), Half Bábka (d. Jasmine Elsen), Kuku (d. Henrich Žucha), Love (d. Maja Brnušáková).

Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia is organized by Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia Inc. (CaSFFA), in cooperation with Slovak Film Institute (SFU), production company ARINA and Iksima, with the support of the Slovak Audiovisual Fund. Partners of the event are VŠMU, Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, Embassy of Slovak Republic in Canberra, Slovak Tourist Board.

After the showcase in Melbourne, the Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia 2015 will be running in Sydney (Oct 21 - 25, 2015) and in Perth (Nov 19 - 22, 2015).
