First Australian Czech & Slovak Film Festival launched in Melbourne

June 5, 2013 the first edition of the Czech & Slovak Film Festival will be launched, placing its venues to Melbourne, the second largest Australian city. The festival will be held until June 9, 2013.

In the framework of the opening, the Slovak classic The Sun in a Net (by Štefan Uher, 1962) will be introduced in the prestigious cinema of the Melbourne Cinemathéque - ACMI, in a digitally restorated versio; the screening will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Slovak Film Institute. An article on the film was published at the Senses of Cinema film portal, its author is Peter Hourigan. The Festival will be officially opened by the co-production title In the Shadow (by David Ondříček, 2012).

The program of the festival will also include several other successful Slovak titles - The House (by Zuzana Liová, 2011), Alois Nebel (by Tomáš Luňák, 2011), Identity Card (by Ondřej Trojan, 2010), Stones (by Katarína Kerekesová, 2010), The Last Bus (r. Martin Snopek & Ivana Laučíková) and a collection of Slovak archive animation shorts.

The first Czech & Slovak Film Festival was initiated and is organized by the Czech and Slovak Film Festival of Australia Inc. (CaSFFA), its curator and director is Cerise Howard, film critic and a collaborator of several film festivals.

Co-organizers and partners are: Slovak Film Institute (SFÚ), Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic, Embassy of Slovak Republic in Canberra, Czech Film Centre - National Film Archive (NFA), Consulate of the Czech Republic in Sydney, Czech Centres and Cinemathéque Melbourne.
