Children received three Tiantan awards in Beijing

Children (orig. Deti, SK-CZ 2014), fiction debut by the renowned Slovak documentary filmmaker Jaro Vojtek was screened in the Official Selection – Competition of 5th Beijing IFF in its international premiere. The main competition section presented by the new international programming team headed by the chief advisor Marco Mueller included 16 film, all shown in their world or international premieres. The prominent competition jury composed of renowned names such as Luc Besson, Kim Ki-duk, Fernando Fernando Meirelles had the task to decide on 10 Tiantan awards and awarded three of them to the Slovakian competition entry.

Children were awarded for the Best Script  - Marek Leščák, Best Cinematography - Tomáš Stanek and Best Actress in Supporting Role - Éva Bandor, who accepted the award in person from Kim Ki-duk. Awards for Marek Leščák and Tomáš Stanek were handed over to the producer of the film, Mátyás Prikler (Mphilms).

Children was premiered in Autumn 2014 in both Slovak and Czech cinemas. Currently it competes in the Official Competition of Czech and Slovak Feature Films at the Czech festival Finale Plzeň.

In April 2015, Jaro Vojtek´s latest film, So Far, So Near (orig. Tak ďaleko, tak blízko, SK 2015) premiered in Slovak cinemas. The documentary film contemplates the coexistence of autistic children with their parents, striving to to find new ways of looking at this serious disorder of the human psyche. The research and making the documentary was also an inspiration for the short story “Son” within the feature Children.
