Children by Jaro Vojtek to compete for Tiantan Award in Beijing

The debut feature by documentary filmmaker Jaro Vojtek Children (Deti, SK-CZ 2014) was announced as a Tiantan Award nominee, which will be granted by a seven-member jury composed of Luc Besson, Fyodor Bondarchuk, Peter Chan, Robert Mark Kamen, Kim Ki-duk, Fernando Meirelles a Zhou Xun at the 5th Beijing IFF (April 16 - 24, 2015).

Beijing IFF,  with Marco Müller as the chief festival programme advisor, recognized mostly for his connection to the prestigious Venice IFF, will present the film in the Official Selection - Competition. The film will be presented in its international premiere by a significant delegation - director Jaro Vojtek, producer Mátyás Prikler, actress Éva Bandor, cinematographer Tomáš Stanek and production manager Martina Agricolová.

The first feature of the documentary filmmaker, Jaro Vojtek presents an authentic picture of damaged family relations, while illustrating that we are indeed closest with our closest ones, although the relationship may sometimes be too much to handle. The film consists of four short films which together create one, compact view of the diverse relations between parents and children. A father trying to cope with the inaccessible world of his autistic son, a young man who cannot bear the separation from his family, a boy living with an insensitive and tyrannical stepfather, a betrayed woman taking care of her dying father – each character copes with their difficulties in their own way. Each of the four short films is set in a different season and together the films create a multilayered mosaic of relationships which reflect hopes, disappointments and decisions that we inevitably have to make.
