Filthy meets The Teacher in Main Competition of goEast 2017

For couple of days from today, German city Wiesbaned opens its gates to lovers of films from Central and Eastern Europe. Because today starts Festival of Central and Eastern European Film goEast (26. 4. – 2. 5. 2017) with several Slovak (co)productions in its programme. For starters, in Main Competition Filthy, feature debut by Tereza Nvotová, will vie for the awards with The Teacher by Jan Hřebejk.

That is but a beginning of the Slovak representation list. Oppose Othering! will screen a documentary on Roma holocaust A Hole in the Head (d. Robert Kirchhoff), a focus section dedicated to new Czech films Czech Cinema Now includes copruduction films I, Olga Hepnarova (d. Tomáš Weinreb, Petr Kazda) and Family Film (d. Olmo Omerzu). The latest film by Agnieszka Holland, a multinational copruduction Spoor found its place in section Specials, while Hommage pays hommage to Márta Mészáros by adding to the Festival programme her film The Unburied Man.

goEast programming team pays a very special and personal hommage to film historian, critic and their former colleague Hans-Joachim Schlegel (26. 1. 1942 - 30. 10. 2016) by dedicating some of the Specials to his memory. This selection includes comedy directed by Dušan Hanák I Love, You Love screened from Schlegel's favourite format, 35mm print, which was provided by the National Archive, Slovak Film Institute.
