Slovak films at Trieste FF 2017

Year 2017 starts fabulously for Slovak films. One of the early festivals of 2017 - Trieste FF (Jan 20 - 29, 2017) - opens with The Teacher by Jan Hřebejk and presents several Slovak films in their Italian premieres witihin the programme. Moreover, Slovak projects are part of the accompanying industry events.

Since its world-premier at Karlovy Vary IFF 2016, The Teacher (d. Jan Hřebejk) has been successfully trotting the festival circuit and has been sold in more than 50 territories. The film has enchanted the directors of the festival: We are very proud to launch the 28th edition with a film that best portrays all the qualities that continue to render the eastern-central european Cinema so great, such as innovative writing, superb acting and a wicked sense of humour.”

Further Slovak films are part of the competition sections.  In the Documentary Competition vies A Hole in the Head (d. Robert Kirchhoff), essayistic film tells the stories and fates of the European Romani, tied to the countries they have inhabited and still do inhabit, which reflects the hidden side of the great tragedy known as Porraimos.
On the other side, coproduction title I, Olga Hepnarova (d.Tomáš Weinreb, Petr Kazda) competes within the Feature Film Competition.

A graduate short Chilli by Martina Mikušová is a part of the animation programme.

Trieste co-production forum When East Meets West (WEMW) is dedicated to connecting projects and film professionals from Eastern Europe and English-speaking countries and will also be attended by several Slovak film producers and representatives of film institutions. Among 22 sleceted WEMW projects is also a project by Slovak documentarist Peter Kerekes Wishing on a Star

Eastweek, an international script-writing workshop devoted to the development of cinema screenplay by young filmmakers, features a Slovak project CHLOROPHYLL by Michaela Prablesková.
