Multiple Slovak films, including Black Days, at Dok Leipzig

66th edition of the International Leipzig Festival for Documentary and Animated Film (8 – 15 October 2023) will present multiple Slovak films in the program, including a classic doc Black Days.

Black Days, a Special Edition of A Week in Film, directed by Ladislav Kudelka, Milan Černák, Štefan Kamenický, and Ctibor Kováč, give us the first-hand testimony of the August 1968 events. The films will screen in the Retrospective: Film and Protest – Popular Uprisings in the Cold War section.

Two new Slovak films are part of this year’s festival programme. Photophobia, directed by Ivan Ostrochovský and Pavol Pekarčík, was selected for non-competitive Panorama: Central and Eastern Europe section, while Filip Diviak’s My Name Is Edgar and I Have a Cow is waiting for the young audience in Kids Dok programme.

After last year’s success, the festival once again decided to celebrate Central and Eastern European shorts with special program of 25 films from the region shown one evening in a continuous screening. The program was made in co-operation with national centers and institutes of Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Slovenia, and Slovakia (represented by the Slovak Film Institute). Audience will have a chance to see Yellow (d. Ivana Šebestová), Symbol (d. Kristína Žilinčárová), In Line (d. Kamila Kučíková), Attention All Passengers (d. Marek Moučka), and Journey (d. Marek Jasaň).
