What's Slovak in Jihlava 2010?

Jihlava will become the center of various activities and events concerning the Slovak documentaries in the next few days: in addition to the presentation of a Slovak film in the competition of the 14. edition of the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival, Slovak films will be also presented at the 7. Film Market East Silver, at the Slovak Day on October 26, 2010 and a Slovak project will be presented at the 10. co-production East European Forum, as well.

14th JIHLAVA INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL -  October 26 - 31, 2010

The Czech and Slovak co-production project Matchmaking Mayor (original title: Nesvatbov) by Erika Hníková was included to the Czech Joy competition section and also is the opening film of the festival. The film tells a story of a generation of singles in their thirties who live in a medium-sized Slovak village and their mayor who, in an effort to maintain the population, intends to bring them together. Film professionals had a chance to see the film at the presentation of upcoming documentary films Docu Talents from East, taking place at 45th Karlovy Vary IFF.

10th EAST EUROPEAN FORUM -  October 25 - 26, 2010

East European Forum is the platform for East European filmmakers to meet European film professionals - producers, distributors, buyes, sales agents, fund representatives, etc. Directors and producers present their projects in order to find co-production parters or financial support. The Slovak participant in the forum is the producer Tomáš Kaminský (Mandala Pictures) with the project by Jaroslav Vojtek Romanies Go to Election.

7th FILM MARKET EAST SILVER - OCTOBER 25 - 31, 2010

Within the 290 presented projects of the film market focused on documentary films from Central and Eastern Europen, 8 Slovak dokumentaries will be available in the video database. Three of these films are among 33 nominations for the Silver Eye Award - the award for the Best Documentary at the film market.

Within the East Silver market the Slovak Day will take place. On October 26, 2010 there will be not only some of the upcoming Slovak documentaries and Slovak audiovision in the context of documentary filmmaking presented, but also study cases and lectures on this topic will be given. The organizers of the event are IDF Prague, sentimental film and the Slovak Film Institute, with the support of the Audiovisual Fund.

OTHER SLOVAK PARTICIPATION

Slovakia will be also represented in the Jury of the competition section Between Seas of the 14th Jihlava IDFF - the Jury member will be the Slovak photgrapher Lucia Nimcová. In Jihlava, she will also present her work as a part of the Darkroom project, which exhibits the photographs of authors directly in the film theatres of the festival. 

The Slovak director Viera Čakányová is the author of the festival spot, her two films Olda and Update are included to the festival program. 

The successful Slovak director Peter Kerekes will present his Czech project What If - Hilter Had Won the War? in the Czech Television Presents section.
