Slovak Films at IFDF Jihlava

IFDF Jihlava bannerSlovak films are traditionally presented at theInternational festival of documentary films in Jihlava, Czech republic. This year they are included both in the competition selection and at the documentary marketEast Silver.

Films presented in the competition section  "Between the Seas":

Hero of Our Times (dir. Zuzana Piussi)
A man impersonating historical experience and intellectual evolution, the almost-90-year-old film critic and theoretician Pavol Branko passes through three stories about three women and surprisingly for an author of many studies on documentary films, finds himself a subject of a documentary.

Border (r. Jaro Vojtek)
In 1946, the post-war border separated families and also split the cemetery in two as one part of the village of Slemence ended up in Czechoslovakia while the other found itself in the Ukraine. It seems the village is far from reuniting, since the border which is now an edge of the European Union is guarded even more tightly than before.

Being a Tourist at Home (dir. Jaroslava Bagdasarová)
This visualization of social phenomena shows a choreography of everyday events in a seaside village of Čaplino where the Chukchi government has built new houses so that local families could offer accommodation to American and Japanese tourists who, however, are not coming.
