Slovak films at IDFA 2017
International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam will present two Slovak films at its annual 30th edition (November 15 – 26, 2017). Documentary The White World According to Daliborek by Vít Klusák will have its international premiere and a project of Slovak director and producer Peter Kerekes Occupation 1968 (d. Evdokia Moskvina, Linda Dombrovszky, Maria Elise Scheidt, Magda Szymkow, Stephan Komandarev) will be presented in the section IDFA Forum. In addition, The Lust for Power (d. Tereza Nvotová) is part of Docs for Sale
The White World According to Daliborek (d. Vít Klusák) is a portrait of radical neo-Nazi, who lives in hatred toward most of his community but he doesn´t know what to change. „The hardest part of shooting was keeping the balance between standing aloof and empathy. Even if there is no need to emphasize that I disagree with Nazi ideology, I have known that I don´t want to shoot activist conviction, documentary execution of Nazi guy,“ said Vít Klusák for website portal dokweb.net.
The film will be screened in the section Masters that consists of the newest documentaries by renowned documentary authors. The director will personally introduce the screening November 21st, followed by a discussion moderated by filmmaker Rob Schröder.
Industry section IDFA Forum (November 20 – 22, 2017) will, as usually, offer a meeting place for presentation of ground-breaking creative projects. Occupation 1968, produced by Slovak director and producer of documentary films Peter Kerekes, is among selected.
Fifty years after, 5 short films by directors of 5 countries of Warsaw Pact are exploring the topic of occupation of Czechoslovakia from their own perspectives. Film reveals the feelings of soldiers, who were sent to the foreign country to stop deviating from socialism, and shows a different point of view than Slovaks have ever known. Subjective perception of invasion by members of different military rank reveals their relationship to the moral responsibility.
Additionally, documentary film The Lust for Power (d. Tereza Nvotová), internationally premiered at IFDF Ji.hlava, is part of Docs for Sale and Paula Ďurinová is Slovak participant at IDFA Academy.
