Slovak actor Štefan Kvietik receiving the Trebbia Award

Slovak actor Štefan Kvietik will receive the prestigous Trebbia Award for Lifetime Achievement during the gala ceremony in the Spanish Hall of the Prague Castle this Sunday, March 9, 2014.

The 14th Award Ceremony, within the category of Artistic Achievement, will also award other personalities of cultural life - the world-famous photographer Annie Leibovitz, the British sculpturer and Sigmund Freud's great-granddaughter Jane McAdam-Freud and the founder of the Black Theatre Jiří Srnec – will all receive the European Award for Artistic Achievement Trebbia. The Chinese-Czech husband and wife Kunying Straková and Jiří Straka from Beijing will receive the Special Award for Contribution to the National Dialogue of Cultures.

Trebbia in a European Award, established in 2000 as a form of acknowledgment and thanks to entrepreneurs, maecenases and artists. The candidates are suggested by personalities and institutions from all over the world. The laureats are selected by the International Nomination Committee consisting of famous personalities from the field of culture, business and politics. The awards are granted in four categories: support of culture and arts, artistic achievement, for contribution to the national dialogue of cultures and for lifetime achievement.

Slovak actor Štefan Kvietik was born 1934, after graduating VŠMU in Bratislava (1957) he started in the Army Theatre in Martin and from 1959 he was drama member at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava. Starting in the 60s, he was cast in more than 40 films. After episodic roles, he starred in the leading role in It's Never Late to Begin (1961) by Ján Lacko. His most significant and most films are The Boxer and Death (1962) by Peter Solan, Crows Fly Over (1962) by Martin Hollý, Master Executioner (1966) by Paľo Bielik, The Copper Tower (1970) by Martin Hollý or The Millennial Bee 1-2 (1983) by Juraj Jakubisko. From 1966 he was also featured in Czech films. During 1984 - 1990 he was holding lectures at VŠMU film school in Bratislava. In 1989 he joined the politics. In 2004 he received the state order of the President of Slovak Republic's Cross of the II. Degree and Ľudovít Štúr's Rank of the II. Degree. In 2012, at Bratislava IFF, he received a tile on the Movie Walk of Fame.
