Slovak films and personalities receiving awards at Bratislava IFF

The 14th Bratislava IFF (9. - 15. 11. 2012) was closed yesterday with a gala ceremony, during which Slovak films from the new MADE IN SLOVAKIA - Feature and Animation Film Competition were awarded.

The International Jury consisting of Martin Blaney (Screen International), Blagoja Kunovski (Manaki Brothers IFF) and Azize Tan (Istanbul IFF) was selecting the best feature film among eight films, distributed in theatres in 2012 and with a Slovak production involvement. The winning title became the debut of director Iveta Grófová Made in Ash, receiving the UniCredit Bank Award with financial reward of 3 000 €.

According to the jury, the film: "...which impressed us by its adept blending of documentary and fiction and sensitive handling of non-professional actors. The talented young director gives a fresh and personal view of an eternal social problem that has universal relevance. We believe that Iveta Grófová, the director of the winning film Made in Ash, is a name to watch."

The award was received by the producer of the film Barbara Kipsová (Protos Productions), the director Iveta Grófová and the actress Silvia Halušicová.

The Slovak competition section was also judgd by the FEDEORA European Film Critic Jury, which consisted of Dubravka Lakić (Serbia), Gidi Orscher (Israel) and James Evans (Great Britain). The members of the jury decided to award the co-production title of the Czech director David Ondříček In the Shadow. The award was received by the Slovak actress Soňa Norisová and the Slovak co-producer Patrik Pašš (Trigon Production).

The MADE IN SLOVAKIA section was co-organized by the Slovak Film Institute.

The Film Europe company traditionally awards those Slovak personalities, who represent their country internationally. The Film Europe Award at the Bratislava IFF 2012 went to the young actress Gabriela Marcinková, who starred in several inernationally successful productions - alongside Jude Law she appeared in the latest Fernando Mereilles film 360, she starred in the Bruno Osif short Room 4024, presented within the Cannes Short Film 2012, and currently stars in Asger Leth film Move On, opposite Mads Mikkelsen in the female leading role. She also appeared in the new Neil Jordan film Byzantium.




The Award for Outstanding Contribution to Slovak was given to the actor Štefan Kvietik. He will receive a tile on the Movie Walk of Fame, which will be laid during the Bratislava Cultural Summer 2013.
