Art Film Fest 2014 both Slovak and International

The International Film Festival Art Film Fest Trenčianske Teplice / Trenčín (June 20 – 27, 2014) opens its 22nd edition with a wide selection of high-quality latest international film production in its competitive and side-bar sections, including the traditional focus on new Slovak cinema.

In the competitive sections, the festival concentrates on first, second and third feature films (IC of Feature Films 2014) and a representative selection of shorts up to 30 min. (IC of Short Films 2014). Further programme sections are dedicated to: best of European films (European Corner) and a showcase of world cinema (All Around the World), closer look at Asian cinema (Eastern Promises), more specialized sections Love and Anarchy and Late Night Show. The profile section is dedicated to the British film director Alan Clarke.

The focus section of this year is based on the triple anniversaries of WWI (1914 - 1918), WWII (1939 - 1945) and the Slovak National Uprising (1944). War and Film is organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Film Institute and features a special collection of Slovak archive films dedicated to the topic, including the Slovak premiere restored digital version of Signum Laudis (by Martin Hollý 1980). Further Slovak films include two films by Stanislav Barabáš For Freedom (1955) and The Bells Toll For The Barefooted (1965), and by Paľo Bielik Wolves´ Liars (1945) and Captain Dabač (1959).

Slovak Season 2014
The festival traditionally dedicated significant space to Slovak films, with focus on the country´s latest film production, as well as on tributes to the personalities of Slovak cinema.
In this year´s edition, 6 new Slovak films are included in the Slovak Season:
Slovakia 2.0., an omnibus film, composing of 10 shorts by 10 Slovak directors, such as Martin Šulík, Juraj Herz, Peter Kerekes, Zuzana Liová, contemplating the state of Slovakia and her society within 20 years of their country´s independence,
Step into Darkness, latest film by Miloslav Luther, about individuals lost in the made of the complicated post-war times,
First Slovak Horror, a pseudo-documentary about director Robert Slovak’s unsuccessful efforts to make the first Slovak horror film,
The Edge – 4 Films about Marek Brezovský, by Patrik Lančarič, a long-awaited documentary about one of Slovak most talented contemporary musicias who passed away long before his time,
All My Children, Slovak box-office hit documentary by Ladislav Kaboš,
Felvidék – Caught in Between, debut feature-length documentary by Vladislava Plančíková.

Tribute to Peter Solan (1929 – 2013) presents the director´s masterpiece The Boxer and Death (1962), in the digitally restored version, in Slovak premiere.

Art Film Fest also traditionally acknowledges renowned personalities of the World Cinema: Claudia Cardinale and Czech actor Ivan Trojan will receive the Actor’s Mission Award, and Istvan Szabo will be presented with the Golden Camera Award together with the renowned Slovak scriptwriter Ondrej Šulaj.
