Contemporary Slovak Cinema in Skopje

Focus: Contemporary Slovak Cinema 2014 / Pictures and Dreams - The Most Awarded Slovak Films will be showcased from June 4 to June 11, 2014 in Skopje, Macedonia on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of establishing of the diplomatic relations between the Slovak Republic and the Republic of Macedonia.

A representative selection of Slovak cinema is brought to Skopje with the main aim to present to wide Macedonian audience the recent films from young and already renowned Slovak filmmakers.

The contemporary full-length production is selected from the features that are currently representing Slovakia at international film festivals. The selection includes:
The Miracle (Zázrak. 2013) directed by Juraj Lehotský, My Dog Killer (Môj pes Killer, 2013) directed by Mira Fornay, Made in Ash (Až do mesta Aš, 2012) directed by Iveta Grófová, The Candidate (Kandidát, 2013) directed by Jonáš Karásek and House (2011) made by director and screenwriter Zuzana Liová. Among features there are selected three internationally awarded Slovak documents of recent years – Blind Loves (Slepá lásky, 2008) by Juraj Lehotský, Cooking History (Ako sa varia dejiny, 2009) by Peter Kerekes and Osadné (2009) by Marko Škop. 

In addition to full-length production the program is enriched by a representative selection of internationally awarded animated shorts. The student Oscar-nominated film In the Cube (V kocke, 1999) by Michal Struss, animated films Four (Štyri, 2007) and Snow (Sneh, 2013) by Ivana Šebestová, a puppet opera Stones (Kamene, 2010) by Katarína Kerekesová, Moon (Mesiac, 2012) by Ondrej Rudavský, tWINs (2011) by Peter Budinský, The Last Bus (Posledný autobus, 2011) by Martin Snopek and Ivana Laučíková, Dust and Glitter (2011) by Michaela Čopíková and Veronika Obertová and Fongopolis (2014) by Joanna Kożuch.

The film showcase is held under the auspices of H.E. Martin Bezák, Ambassador of the Slovak Republic to the Republic of Macedonia and H. E. Elizabeta Kančeska-Milevska, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Macedonia.
