Peter KRIŠTÚFEK, režisér

You are also a writer. Didn’t you want to write Visible World as a novel?

A script’s a script and a novel’s a novel, both use different language. The theme of Visible World needed film narration.

What was your first impulse for the story?

The film consists of several themes: Where are the limits of privacy? Do we have the right to interfere with lives of other people? Is evil demonic and transcendent or is it just ordinary and inconspicuous? Aren’t we opening the “Pandora’s box” – which we all have deep inside – too often? Are we able to close it? Those were the initial stimuli. And then there was the view of the balcony across the street and the unconcerned family living in its apartment. At least it seemed to be.

The leading character was portrayed by the Czech actor Ivan Trojan. Did you write the role for him?

I wrote the script for somebody, who’s able to act persuasively, minimalistically and naturally. Only when l realized I’m not able to find a suitable Slovak actor, I discovered it’s Ivan Trojan. Afterwards, however, I clung to him so much, that if he hadn´t liked my script and we wouldn’t get along the way we did, my film would look completely different. Ivan Trojan jokes that the character is me – and I say, it’s definitely him. But, as I discovered, everybody recognizes themselves a little in the character.

Visible World is about looking for happiness. What makes you happy?

The possibility of shooting another film. And to be able to have such great colleagues as Ivan Trojan, director of photography Martin Štrba, editor Maroš Šlapeta or sound engineer Radim Hladík Jr.
