Brno 16 Welcomes Slovak Shorts

International Short Film Festival Brno 16 (October 10 – 13, 2018), one of the oldest short film festivals, will present a retrospective of Slovak animation and digitally restored documentaries from the collection of the National Film Archive of Slovak Film Institute (SFI).

Nejen sportovní souboje (More Than Sport Duels) is a selection of documentaries that portray unique atmosphere of sport events and performances. According to the motto of this year's edition "It's a fight" the selection will present The trophy from Basel (d. Mikuláš Fedor, Oskár Šághy) that shows the milestone of Slovak football team Slovan Bratislava. Director Milan Černák will attend the festival with his wife, editor Margita Černáková and introduce his two films in the selection. Documentary Hockey of '69 depicts the moments of Ice Hockey World Championships in Sweden and the victory of Czechoslovak players against the Soviet team. In World Ski Championships Černák commemorates the most important Czechoslovak sport event of 1970 that took place in the High Tatras.

The festival will also present a selection of short animated movies created in Slovakia since 1993. 25 years of Slovak Animation consists of Steps, Leaps, Years... and the Last One Turns off the Light (d. collective), Lionardo Mio (d. Ivana Šebestová), Invention in A minor for two voices (d. Vladimír Král), In the Box (d. Michal Struss), Viliam (d. Veronika Obertová), tWINs (d. Peter Budinský), The Last Bus (d. Ivana Laučíková, Martin Snopek), Pandas (d. Matúš Vizár), Cowboyland (d. Dávid Štumpf), Spirit of the City (d. Andrej Kolenčík, Veronika Kocourková), and Journey (d. Marek Jasaň).
