Slovak films for children at Zlín Film Festival

One of the oldest film festivals for children and youth Zlín Film Festival (May 27 – June 6, 2016) is getting ready for its 56th edition. Several Slovak films occur in its programme, many of them in competition sections.

The traditional International Competition of Student Films Zlin Dog will feature short films: To See the Unseen (d. M. Kočiš), and MYSELF! (d. R. Rausová), Mila Fog (d. M. Prokopová), Brother Deer (dr. Z. Žiaková), I Am Sorry (d. T. Kuhn) and East or West, Home Is Best (d. P. Višňovský).

Star Taxi (d. J. Krumpolec), animated short based on the original story by the acclaimed writer Gianni Rodari, will be shown in the International Competition of Animated Films for Children. The adventures of Hugo, a small boy, and Peppino, a taxi driver, on their journey through the dangerous universe will thus compete for the Golden Slipper for best animated film for children.

The festival programme will also introduce three feature co-production titles: In Your Dreams! (d. Petr Oukropec) will vie in the International Competition of Feature Films for Youth, I, Olga Hepnarova (d. Tomáš Weinreb, Petr Kazda) will be screened in the International Competition of European First Films and Family Film (d. Olmo Omerzu) will be presented within the non-competitive section New Czech Films.

Slovakia will be also represented in the festival juries. Director and producer Mira Fornay will serve on the International Expert Jury for European First Films and Nina Petrikovičová will be present in the Joint International Jury of Children and Adults for Short Animated Films.
