Ukrainian Cinema Week in Bratislava and Košice
On the occasion of the Ukrainian Culture Month in Slovakia, a film showcase titled Ukrainian Cinema Week will take place in early September in two Slovak cities. It will offer a selection of films primarily focusing on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, many of which have received awards at international festivals.
The event in Bratislava will occur from September 3rd to 6th in the cinema hall of the Slovak National Gallery, as well as in the alternative space of the Lumière Cinema during its reconstruction. Following the Bratislava segment, the showcase will continue from September 7th to 10th at the Úsmev Cinema in Košice.
During the Bratislava segment of the showcase, there will also be a panel discussion on the topic of collaboration in the film industry between Ukraine and Slovakia. “Ukrainian Cinema Week is an important platform for presenting contemporary Ukrainian cinematography,” says Rastislav Steranka, the director of the National Cinematographic Center. “The date August 24th is the Ukrainian national holiday – Independence Day. On this occasion, several events will take place in Slovakia as part of the Ukrainian Culture Month, drawing attention to Ukraine, a cultural landscape whose cinema belongs to the cultivated European sphere and is acclaimed at film festivals worldwide.”
Ukrainian Film Week is organized by the Ukrainian State Film Agency and the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic in collaboration with the Slovak Film Institute.
