Two Slovak projects awarded at the 2014 MIDPOINT scriptwriting workshop

The MIDPOINTworkshop, aimed at supporting talents and script developing, announced it winners on August 29, 2015 at FAMU, in Prague. Among the awarded were two Slovak projects: Why We Believe and The Contest.

One of the two awarded projects in the short film category was the project of writer and director Martin Hnát and producer Zuzana Bartošová, both students of VŠMU in Bratislava, entitled Why We Believe (Prečo veríme). The story, taking place after the WWI, is aimed at a love triangle, at the same time it talks about the problem of losing and re-discovering Christian faith in a world distroyed by the war.

MIDPOINT in co-operation with Mediterranean Film Institute (MFI) also granted scholarships. The winners will participate at the prestigious European workshop organized by the MFI for 16 years already. In Summer of 2015, two teams will visit the Greek islands of Nissyros and Samos, one of them being Lukáš Obermajer (writer), Erika Paulinská (producer) a Martina Buchelová (director) with their VŠMU project The Contest (Súťaž). The satirical script inspired by reality shows introduces a study of a group of contestants, who take part on a absurd contest in supermarket.

The winner of the feature film category was the project Vera Dreams of the Sea from Kosovo.

The fifth edition od MIDPOINT welcomed (besides the core lecturers: writer and professor of scriptwriting Brendan Ward, dean of FAMU Pavel Jech, Hungarian director Csaba Bollók, directors and lecturers Ivo Trajkov and Pavel Marek, and Slovenian producer Danijel Hočevar) several guest lecturers: Giovianni Robbiano from MFI, Sibylle Kurz - a pitching expert, Ferenc Pusztai - Hungarian producer, and Guyla Gazdag - Artistic Director of  Sundance Directors' Lab.

Previously, Slovak projects Magda H. (full-length, 2013),  Rubicon (full-length, 2012) and Momo (short film, 2011), were awarded at the workshop.
