Three Awards for Slovak Films at Karlovy Vary IFF

The rich participation of Slovak films at the 48th Karlovy Vary IFF (28. 6. - 6. 7. 2013) resulted in a successful finale: three of the competing Slovak films received awards.

The opening film of the East of the West - Films in Competition section Miracle by Juraj Lehotský received the Special Mention by the Jury headed by Éva Vezér and including Peter Paul Huth, Maja Miloš, Piotr Mularuk and Sergej Stanojkovski. The award was personally accepted by Juraj Lehotský.

The Czech-Slovak title Honeymoon by Jan Hřebejk was given the Best Director Award, granted by the Grand Jury - this year headed by president Agnieszka Holland and featuring Ivo Andrle, Frédéric Boyer, Alon Garbuz, Claudia Llosa, Meenakshi Shedde and Sigurjon "Joni" Sigvatsson. The award was accepted by the director.

The non-statutory award given by the federation of European film critics FEDEORA was handed out to the directors' trio film Velvet Terrorists, which was screened within the East of the West - Films in Competition section. The FEDEORA Jury consisted of James Evans, Michael Ranze a Tonci Valentic. The award was accepted by one of the directors, Ivan Ostrochovský.

All awarded films were presented in their world premieres.
