The Teacher and The Wolf from Royal Vineyard Street competes at Karlovy Vary IFF
The International Film Festival Karlovy Vary (July 1 – 9 2016) unveils its Official Selection Competition line-up featuring two Slovak titles: Slovak-Czech co-production The Teacher by the acclaimed Czech director Jan Hřebejk and The Wolf from Royal Vineyard Street, the last film of the recently deceased Czech legend Jan Němec.
Popular author duo Jan Hřebejk and scriptwriter Petr Jarchovský comes with the drama from 1980´s based in Czechoslovakia. Since the arrival of the new teacher, Maria Drazdechova, to a Bratislava suburban school, life has turned upside down for students and parents. The convincement of the teacher’s corrupted behaviour and one of the students' suicide attempt that could be related to that matter, makes the school Principal call the students’ parents for an urgent meeting that will suddenly put the future of all the families at stake.
The Teacher is Hřebejk´s first Slovak majority film, starring well-known Slovak actors Zuzana Mauréry, Peter Bebjak, Zuzana Konečná, Csongor Kassai, Attila Mokos or Éva Bandor. The film was co-produced by PubRes (SK), OFFSIDEMEN (CZ), RTVS - Rozhlas a televízia Slovenska (SK) and Česká televize (CZ). The sales are handled by LevelK. The film was supported by the Slovak Audiovisual Fund, Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic and the State Cinematography Fund (CZ).
The world premiere also waits for The Wolf from Royal Vineyard Street, the final work by one of the most original and nonconformist Czech New Wave director Jan Němec who died in March this year at the age of 79. The Czech-Slovak-French comedy based on the director’s life depicts a story of Wolf, a savage, tricky and uncontrollable creature; Wolf in sheep’s clothing and the other way round. Jíří Mádl plays Jan Němec alter ego.
The film was co-produced by MasterFilm (CZ), Bocalupo Films (FR), Česká televize (CZ), MEDIA FILM (SK), UPP (CZ) and supported by the State Cinematography Fund (CZ) and Slovak Audiovisual Fund. The Wolf from Royal Vineyard Street was presented at the KVIFF´s Works in Progress last year.
