Czech Actors in Slovak Films at Zlín Film Festival

The 53rd IFF for Children and Youth Zlín presents a significant amount of Slovak films. The festival section On a Common Journey offers a selection of Slovak films featuring Czech actors and actresses. Two Slovak films are, moreover, included in the competition sections of the festival. This year's edition will run May 27 - June 1, 2013.

The On a Common Journey section offers a collection of Slovak films with Czech actors throught the decades, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Slovak Film Institute. The 60s will be represented by two films - Dragon's Return by Eduard Grečner, where the leading character was brilliantly portrayed by Radovan Lukavský, and The Wonder Maid by Štefan Uher with Ladislav Mrkvička in the role of one of the artists. One of the Czech actors in Slovak films is also Jiří Bartoška, today the president of the Karlovy Vary IFF, who was the leading actor, alongside Magda Vášáryová, in The Southern Mail by Stanislav Párnický.

The event will also present Czech actresses in leading roles in Slovak films. The young Andrea Čunderlíková portrayed the main character in the Slovak-Georgian comedy Rača, My Love, in the Dušan Hanák's I Love, You Love it was the popular Iva Janžurová. The visitors of the festival will also have the chance to see Dušan Rapoš' The Fountain for Suzanne, in which the young Eva Vejmělková debuted, and Run, He's Coming! with Zuzana Bydžovská. The collection is completed with Juraj Jakubisko's Sitting on a Branch I Am Fine with Markéta Hrubešová in the role of the Jewish girl.

Slovak cinema will be also presented in the International Competition of Animated Films for Children, where Katarína Kerekesová's Mimi and Lisa - Twins from the Cards. The International Competition of Films for Children will also feature the co-production Czech-Slovak fairy tale The Blacksmith from Woodham.

Several Slovak filmmakers will personally attend the festival: Eduard Grečner will present his film Dragon's Return, Stanislav Párnický will open his film The Southern Mail with the cinematographer of the film Laco Kraus, actors Markéta Hrubešová and Ondřej Pavelka from Sitting on a Branch I Am Fine and actor Andy Hryc from Run, He's Coming! will also be attending. A press conference concerning the 50th anniversary of the Slovak Film Institute and the Digital Era will also take place within the framework of the festival.
