Summer School Academy Uherské Hradište honours Emília Vášaryová

Summer School Academy Uherské Hradište kicks off on July 22 and will last until July 26. This year´s programme will not only show a large number of Slovak films, but also recognize Emília Vášáryová, an outstanding an icon of Slovak film. The traditional Slovak day will be held on Tuesday July 26, 2016.

The section Visegrad Horizon - New Visegrad Films brings a major collection of Slovak contemporary titles: a quiet story about a man waiting for an important surgery 5 October (d. Martin Kollar), a youth film In Your Dreams! (d. Petr Oukropec), a thriller Red Captain (d. Michal Kollár) set in the hot summer of 1992 in Czechoslovakia, an urban drama The Cleaner (d. Peter Bebjak), a documentary from Lybia Colours of Sand (d. Ladislav Kaboš), the story of the last woman executed in Czechoslovakia I, Olga Hepnarova (d. Tomáš Weinreb, Petr Kazda), an animated comedy Lokalfilmis (d. Jakub Kroner), a drama Family Film (d. Olmo Omerzu), a special-effects animated feature Murderous Tales (d. Jan Bubeníček), The Teacher (d. Jan Hřebejk) premiered at Karlovy Vary IFF and an extraordinary biopic of enfant terrible Jan Němec The Wolf from Royal Vineyard Street (d. Jan Němec).

In the programme of Student Films the section Visegrad Horizont presents retrospectives of young and talented filmmakers who studied at film schools in Czech Republic and Slovakia. The student section features five films by two Slovak directors Michal Blaško and Martin Hnát.

A significant event to be held during the Summer School Academy is a tribute to Emília Vášáryová, first lady of Slovak theatre and cinema. On this special occasion the festival will screen Slvoak films from the early era of her career St. Elizabeth Square (Vladimír Bahna, 1965) and The Ballad on the Seven Hanged (d. Martin Hollý, 1968). Moreover, the section ACFK presents features another recent film Eva Nová (d. Marko Škop) with Emília Vášáryová in the main role. During the Academy, Emília Vášáryová will also lead a masterclass on acting.

The section honouring Czech scriptwriter Petr Jarchovský presents also co-production film Identity Card (d. Ondřej Trojan). Visitors will also have a chance to watch films at the open-air cinema where further co-production titles will bw shown: Tiger Theory (d. Radek Beran) and Trabant - From Australia To Bangkok (d. Dan Přibán) .

Organizer of Summer School Academy Uherské Hradište is Association of Czech Film Clubs (AČFK). Partners and co-organizers of the Slovak participation at the LFS are Association of Slovak Film Clubs (ASFK) with support of Slovak Audiovisual Fund and Slovak Film Insitute.
