Summer School Academy Uherské Hradište 2017

Summer School Academy Uherské Hradište starts on July 27 and lasts until August 6, 2017. Beside the critically acclaimed world cinema and its filmmakers, who come to present their films to Uherské Hradiště personally, a wide range of Slovak cinema also participates at the event.

The section Visegrad Horizon - New Visegrad Film brings a collection of successful contemporary titles: The Line (d. Peter Bebjak) that won the Award for Best Direction at Karlovy Vary IFF, Nina (d. Juraj Lehotský) world premiered in Karlovy vary, Out (d. Gyӧrgy Kristóf) introduced at Cinéfondation in Cannes, Rotterdam premiered Filthy (d. Tereza Nvotová) and Little Harbour (d. Iveta Grófová) that received a Crystal Bear at Berlinale.

The Visegrad selection features also co-production titles: Spoor (d. Agnieszka Holland), Little Crusader (d. Václav Kadrnka), Ice Mother (d. Bohdan Sláma), A Prominent Patient (d. Julius Ševčík), Garden Store: A Family Friend (d. Jan Hřebejk), Oddsockeaters (d. Galina Miklínová), Barefoot on Stalks (d. Jan Svěrák), 8 Heads of Madness (d. Marta Nováková) and The White World According to Daliborek (d. Vít Klusák).

Within the programme of Student Films the section Visegrad Horizont introduces retrospectives of young and talented filmmakers who studied at film schools in Czech Republic and Slovakia. This year the section presents films by VŠMU student Pavol Čižmár.

Furthemore two special tributes will be held during the Summer School Academy: a tribute to Magda Vášáryová, one of the most frequent cast actress in Czechoslovakia from the 1960s to the beginning of the 1990s; and a tribute to Miro Remo, uncompromising Slovak documentarist and a representative of the latest generation of Slovak filmmakers.

The open-air cinema will show further co-production titles: An Angel of the Lord (d. Jiří Strach), Stuck with a Perfect Woman (d. Tomáš Hoffman), Lunacy (d. Jan Švankmajer) and a fairy tale Šťastný smoliar (d. Jiří Strach).

Organizer of Summer School Academy Uherské Hradište is Association of Czech Film Clubs (AČFK). Partners and co-organizers of the Slovak participation at the LFS are Association of Slovak Film Clubs (ASFK) with support of Slovak Audiovisual Fund and Slovak Film Institute.
