Slovak New Wave in Lithuania
Nine titles of the Slovak treasures from the 60s will travel around Lithuania at the end of September and in October within the 5the Kaunas International Film Festival.The selection of films, which changed the face of Slovak cinema, will be not only presented in Kaunas, but also in Vilnius and Panevėys. Lithuanian audience will have the chance to see 322 (dir. Duan Hanák)
Birdies, Orphans and Fools (dir. Juraj Jakubisko), Celebration in the Botanical Garden (dir. Elo Havetta), Dragon's Return (dir. Eduard Grečner), The Boxer and Death (dir. Peter Solan), The Organ (dir. tefan Uher), The Prime of Life (dir. Juraj Jakubisko), The Sun in a Net (dir. tefan Uher) and Crows Fly Over (dir. Martin Hollý). The two part documentary by Martin ulík 25 from the Sixties or The Czechoslovak New Wave will be also included in the section dedicated to the Slovak New Wave, offering a wider perspective at the circumstances of Czechoslovak New Wave formation. 322 will be presented by the director Duan Hanák personally.
In the Music Moves the World section the film Cigarettes and Songs by Marek ulík and Jana Kovalčíková will be presented.
The Kaunas International Film Festival was established in 2007 by the Visos mūzos organisation as a public act seeking to draw attention of audiences and decision makers towards homogenization of film culture in Lithuania and seeking to save the oldest cinema theater in Lithuania. Today, Kaunas IFF is one of Lithuanias most appreciated film festivals and the main film event in Kaunas. It presents films which have been acclaimed worldwide and also looks for new discoveries. The main priority of Kaunas IFF is a combination of the artistic and social statements in film. Its 5th edition will be held September 27 - October 9 in Kaunas, October 3 - 9 in Vilnius, October 10 - 13 in Panevėys and October 13 - 16 in Nida. The festival also presented a retrospective of the French New Wave, a profile of the director Béla Tarr, a collection of new Irish films, in the past editions.
The festival visitors will be able to purchase DVDs of the Slovak films of the 60s throughout the festival. The organizers of the Slovak section besides Kaunas IFF are the Slovak Film Institute, The Embassy of the Slovak Republic in Riga and The Honorary Consulate of the Slovak Republic in Kaunas.
