Slovak films in Moscow

The capital of the Russian Federation will welcome Slovak films during May 27 - June 1, 2010. The audience in Moscow will have chance to see six significant films of Slovak cinema. Some of the films will be presented by the filmmakers and other guests. The event will be held at the famous Hudozhestvenny theatre.

The festival is a reciprocal event emerging out of international agreements and it refers to festivals of Russian films, which were held in Slovakia in the previous years. Its aim is to bring the Russian audience closer to some of the representative films from history and present of the Slovak cinema, as the program includes both archive films and new Slovak films, awarded with the most "The Sun in the Net" prizes at the recent ceremony.

The opening film Soul at Peace (2009) will be presented by its director Vladimír Balko and its producer Ján Kováčik. Successful productions as Blind Loves (2008) by Juraj Lehotský, Other Worlds (2006) by Marko Škop and Mosquitoes' Tango (2009) by Miloslav Luther will be also screened. The history of the Slovak cinema will be represented by The Organ (1964) by Štefan Uher and I Love, You Love (1980) by Dušan Hanák. Both films will be presented by the film theorist prof. Peter Michalovič.

The festival of Slovak Cinema is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Slovak Republic and the Slovak Films Institute, together with Sovexportfilm and the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. The partners of the event are Hudozhestvenny theatre, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Slovak Republic, The Slovak Institute in Moscow, The Embassy of Slovak Republic in Moscow, the Izvestya and the Communication group: Planeta Inform.
