Slovak films awarded at festivals in Toruń and Jihlava

Academy Award candidate for Slovakia, Made in Ash directed by Iveta Grofova, won the prestigious award at IFF Tofifest for Best Director.

Raw story of a young Slovak, whose life ambitions were destroyed by brutal realities of contemporary Europe, impressed the jury, which awarded director of the movie, Iveta Grofova, with the Golden Angel. The jury commented it´s decision with following statement: "Extremely uncompromising direction, especially on the formal side. The director has not avoided any simpler view of life and the suffering heroine of the story, which was thrown into the pit full of human degradation."

Slovak documentary movies were also succesful at Ji.hlava in the Czech Republic. New Life directed vy Adam Oľha won the Audience Award in Jihlava, while Jaro Vojtek´s documentary The Gypsy Vote scored in the East Silver film market, where it was awarded with a Special Mention.
