Osadné Awarded the Best Documentary at Karlovy Vary IFF 2009

Osadné, the new film by Marko Škop, which represented Slovak Republic in the Documentary Films in Competition at Karlovy Vary IFF 2009 received the award for the Best Documentary Film over 30 minutes long.

Osadné was presented at the festival in its world premiere and competed with 16 further films in the section Documentary Film in Competition. The film was chosen for the award by the Documentary Jury consisting of: György Báron (Hungary), David Courier (USA), Tiziana Finzi (USA), Vít Janeček (Czech Republic) and Jiska Rickels (The Netherlands).

At the Closing Award Ceremony on July 11, 2009, the director and producer of the film, Marko Škop, received the award in person together with Jan Melis, cinematographer and producer, and František Krähelbiel, the editor and producer of the film.
Shortly after the ceremony Marko Škop said: „Three years ago, when our film Other Worlds was in the Documentary Competition, we went to the Tesco to buy three polyester suits „made in Bangladesh“, probably made for one use only. However, we have been using them ever since, and wore them also today during the ceremony. We are very happy that we made it and that the film appeals to the people. The audience were having a good time during the screening and it was a very pleasant feeling for us to hear the applause after the film was over. That is the greatest joy. Of course, awards are important, but I value and respect Karlovy Vary for the people who work for the festival, first and foremost the Programme Department, Eva Zaoralova, Julietta Sichel,Karel Och. These people believe in us, entered our films into the festival program even though we were only beginning filmmakers three years ago. We are very grateful for that, because that´s what life is about. Repationships between people count the most.“

Marko Škop and his team caught attention at Karlovy Vary IFF in 2006 with the film Other Worlds receiveing the Special Jury Mention and the Audience Award.
Film Osadné, still as work in progress, was presented within Docu Talents from the East at the Karlovy Vary IFF in 2008.
