New short documentary The Star with first success

The new independent production documentary short The Star (dir. Andrej Kolenčík, 2012) is celebrating its first successes.

At the 4th edition of the Leiden International Short Film Experience in the Netherlands (9. 6. 2012) the almost 20-minute long documentary received the Honorable Mention of the Jury.

In an American premiere the film will be presented at the significant Palm Springs International ShortFest (19. - 25. 6. 2012). The Star, along three other films, will be screened within the Real People, Reel Drama ShortFest Film Package in one block (91 min.). The films will compete and the winners will automatically be nominated for the American Academy Awards in the short film category.

The Star is a true story of Ján Slovák, a 55-year-old welder, fascinated by acting since a child, but because of family and social conditions unable to become an actor. His dream started to become true, when he was cast in the leading role of a amateur theatrical adaptation of the worst film in history Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959 Ed Wood Jr). This small acting success enables him to make his big dream come true.
