Ji.hlava 2012 with a strong Slovak representation

International Documentary Film Festival Jihlava 2012 (October 23 - 28, 2012) starts this year its 16th year and as usual, it will not be without Slovak representation.

The competition section Between the Seas will present four documents by Slovak filmmakers, three of them coming from Slovak Republic.
The Gypsy Vote (2012) by Jaro Vojtek is a tragicomic documentary, showing the Slovak parliamentary elections in connection with the life of the Gypsies. Furthermore, in Fragile Identity (2012) Zuzana Piussi, aims to figure out where we draw awareness of national pride. Director Adam Oľha presents his latest film New Life (2012), which maps the relationship of his parents and his big family. All the films will be presented in a world premiere.

The fourth and final film in this section is a Polish film by a Slovak director Matej Bobrik called Self(less) portrait (2011). 

The Czech Landscape section presents film The Greatest Wish 3 (2012), realized in co-production of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, by a young director and cinematographer Olga Špátová, who continues in the footsteps of her father, a famous documentary filmmaker Jan Špáta.

Film 25 km2 from director Jana Mináriková, dealing with the peculiar life of a Slovak jeweler will represent Slovakia in the section Short Joy.

The Industry program section will present Emerging Producers, which aims to highlight the young talent in the field of film production. Slovak representative is Tomáš Kaminský (Mandala Pictures), producer of the film The Gypsy Vote.

Two films from Slovakia are also competing for the Silver Eye Award within East Silver market: Bells of Happiness directed by  Marek Šulík and Jana Bučka and The Gypsy Vote by Jaro Vojtek.

Numerous further titles of Slovak documentaries are available in the East Silver market offer during the festival.
