Quality selection of Slovak movies at Cinematik

The 8th IFF Cinematik Piešťany (September 6 - 12, 2013) will open with the new documentary by the director-trio Pekarčík, Ostrochovský and Kerekes The Velvet Terrorists (SK, CZ, HR 2013). After its world premiere at Karlovy Vary IFF, where it received the FEDEORA Award, the film finally comes to Slovak cinemas.

On the occasion of 50th anniversary the Slovak Film Institute is presenting two highlights of Slovak cinema - Pictures of the Old World (CS 1972) by Dušan Hanák and The Millennial Bee (CS 1983) by Juraj Jakubisko. Both directors are celebrating their 75th birthday this year. Films will be presented in the section Cinematik Homage and screened in a digitally restored version from brand new DCP prints. The audience will also be able to watch the Oscar awarded The Shop from the Main Street (CS 1965) by Ján Kadár and Elmar Klos, followed by documentary Leaving the Main Street (2013) by Peter Zákuťanský, which searches the very premises for traces of the 1965-movie.

The most expected movie of the year Miracle (SK, CZ 2013) by Juraj Lehotský, which has recieved the Special Mention of the East of the West Competion at Karlove Vary will be presented in the section In the House . This section is also presenting two Slovak films screened at IFF Rotterdam: Prikler `s Fine, Thanks (SK 2013) and Fornay`s  My Dog Killer (SK, CZ 2013) awarded with the HIIVOS TIGER AWARD, the main prize of this festival.

Besides the full-length films the festival focuses at Slovak shorts as Kolenčík`s and Begányi`s The Exhibition (2013) and also will screen the second edition student film project called Kobylky II. This was developed and invented by Academy of Performing Arts Bratislava, distribution company Continental and by Cinemax. The aim is to present succesfull student works to wider audiences.

The film festival traditionally offers a competion of Slovak documentary film - Cinematik.doc.


The launch of the book Alain Resnais: Kinematografia mozgu (Cinema of the Brain) will take a place at the screening of the director´s movie You Ain`t Seen Nothin` Yet (2011). The book is issued by the Slovak Film Institute in edition Orbis Pictus edited and compiled by David Čeněk, Martin Kaňuch a Michal Michalovič.

The Cinematik is also the co-organizer of the workshop: Co-production of Documentaries in Europe IV.
