Fest Anča will celebrate 60 years of the Slovak Film Institute

The 16th edition of the International Animation Festival Fest Anča (29 June - 2 July 2023) promises to be an exceptional event celebrating the art of animation. With its usual dedication to showcasing the finest Slovak animated films, the festival will not only feature competition and non-competition sections but will also pay tribute to two remarkable milestones in the industry.

This year, Fest Anča celebrates the 60th anniversary of the Slovak Film Institute with a captivating programme of nine classic short animated films from the National Film Archive. Under the title "Archaeology of the Future," this selection delves into the hyperbolized and often poignantly relevant themes of society from the last century. Through the lens of children and adults, ordinary individuals and scientists, comrades, and even "first people," filmmakers present their subjective visions of society, relationships, technological progress, mass housing construction, the environment, and psycho-hygiene. The selection includes timeless works such as Vlastimil Herold's The Apple of Knowledge (1955), Viktor Kubal and Leopold Bródy's We're Entering the Nuclear Age (1963), Viktor Kubal's Earth (1966) and Selection (1982), Ivan Popovič and Milan Pet'ovský's Birthday, 2001 (1973), Vladimír Pikalík's The Motorpiano (1984), Milan Černák's Grey and Green (1989), and two films by Ondrej Slivka, Umbrella (1984) and If I Were a Bird... (1986). The screening, presented by Lea Pagáčová, will take place on Saturday, 1st July at 10:00 a.m. at the iconic Municipal Theatre Žilina.
