A strong presence of Slovak Animation in Třeboň

The International Festival of Animated Films Anifilm in Třeboň (May 2 – 7, 2017) features several Slovak films within its official programme, as well as at Visegrad Animation Forum - a platform for film professionals (May 2 – 4, 2017).

Within the International Competition of Feature Films for Children is presented a co-production title The Oddsockeaters (d. Galina Miklínová) - an adaptation of the best-selling book of the same name by Czech writer and poet Pavel Šrut. A Visegrad-coproduced film Superbia (d. Luca Tóth) - set in surreal country, vies in the International Competition of Short Films.

Student films produced by VŠMU are shown within two sections. Chilli (d. Martina Mikušová) - dealing with misunderstandings in a relationship between man and woman, competes in the student films competition and Tutti (d. Marek Jasaň) - a short on a topic of hands, is part of the competition section for abstract and nonnarative animation.

Slovak animation is also presented within the video clip competition: Andrej Kolenčík´s Robert Pospiš & Martin Sillay: V tom šírom poli and Marián Vredík´s Čisté Tvary: Bloos as Heavy Flooding Water.

Visegrad Animation Forum with Slovak Participation (VAF)

Anifilm traditionally hosts Visegrad Animation Forum, film industry and market access platform for film professionals active in animation, with the aim to attract new partners, producers, broadcasters and film distributors, and to assist in finding ways of financing shorts, animated features and TV series.

Pitching Competitions includes three Slovak projects. The pitchiging of short films in development introduces Wild Beasts (d. Marta Prokopová, Michal Blaško, prod. Super film) - a bizzare story from a world, where people allowed animals to rule the world, and The Kite (d. Martin Smatana, prod. Bfilm) – the story of a young boy dreaming about a perks of being an adult. A Christmas TV special of Mimi and Lisa (d. Ivana Šebestová, Katarína Kerekesová, prod. Fool Moon) is pitched among TV series and Specials.

New Talents, the selection focusing on films by extraordinary talents with promising future careers, introduces Martina Mikušová and her graduate short Chilli. The project counts on the presentation of this compilation at selected European animated film festivals, drawing attention on new talents and bringing them together with experienced foreign producers.

Slovak up-and-coming projects will be presented at the Slovak Breakfast on May 2. Moreover, a showcase of recent Slovak films is  part of the forum. The selection shows Mila Fog (d. Marta Prokopová), Occupation (d. Martina Mikušová) and The Tots – episode The Trip (d. Vanda Raýmanová).

Last year, within the framework of the VAF Trebon 2016, a meeting of the heads of the national film funds from the Visegrad countries was organized to discuss possible coordination and cooperation to support animation projects from the region. The organizers of the VAF have made a further step this year inviting national broadcasters to join the discussion with the funds.

Slovak participation at VAF is coordinated by the Slovak Association of Animation Producers (APAF).
