A Prominent Patient by Julius Ševčík in Berlinale Special

Julius Ševčík's feature film A Prominent Patient (orig. MASARYK) with Czech actor Karel Roden as the main lead Jan Masaryk will be presented at Berlinale 2017 (Feb 9 - 19, 2017) in its world premiere. The film was selected for the section Berlinale Special.

A drama inspired by the American period in life of Jan Masaryk, Czechoslovak diplomat and "a brave, honest, turbulent, and impulsive man" as described by journalist John Gunther. In 1939, after the infamous autumn events that Masaryk perceived as not only political and personal betrayal, but as the Ambassador of Czechoslovakia in London also as his failure, that for the next years erased Czechoslovakia from the maps. Now, with the help of Dr. Stein, an emigré German psychiatrist, and the writer Marcia Davenport, Masaryk tries to overcome his demons and re-live the dramatic events leading to the outbreak of the second world war.

A Prominen Patient was developed as a Czecho - Slovak co-production with main producers being IN Film Praha (CZ) and Rudolf Biermann (SK), and futher co-producers Česká Televize (CZ), Rozhlas a televízia Slovenska (SK) a ZDF/ARTE (DE).

Film was produced with support of Film podporili Audiovisual Fund (SK), State Cinematography Fund (CZ), Prague City Hall (CZ) and City of Bratislava (SK).
