2021 sees first four Slovak Pop Up projects

The Pop Up Film Residency Bratislava has resumed its activities, including the Slovak Pop Up. In May, the iniciative accommodates three more Slovak projects in development. First Slovak Pop Up took place already in April 2021.

From 10 - 31 May 2021, the residency program dedicated to filmmakers with a film project in development holds Pop Up Film Residency Visegrad bringing to Bratislava filmmakers from the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland, that will each develop their respective film. Together with them, three Slovak projects will receive consultations from Helen Beltrame-Linné, Dénes Nagy, or Michal Oleszczyk.

From the submissions, the organizers selected My World Upside Down (Daniel Rihák and Ján Štiffel), Cowgirl (written by Jakub Medvecký), and Everything Will Be Fine (Hannah Espia-Farbová).

Together with Kids (Gregor Valentovič) consulted within the April residency orgnaized in partnership with Seamaine de la Critique Cannes` s NEXT STEP, that makes four promising Slovak projects.

 

My World Upside Down

A comedy about a 12-year-old ardent altar boy Miško, living a normal life up to the moment when, as a result of a minor misunderstanding, the whole village starts to suspect him of being gay.

The story of a generational shift and the rebellion of children against the world of their parents. Inspired by actual events, it evolves around agricultural corruption in Slovakia, which ultimately has a decisive effect on our society.

Everything Will Be Fine

The filmmaker’s a love letter to her 20s, Everything Will Be Fine is a story of a Filipina actress whose ambition is to write a script and who falls in love with a Slovak.

Kids
written and directed by
Gregor Valentovič

Dávid, Maja, Hana and Bažo are 27 and are best friends since grammar school. Life happens, and Dávid finds himself in a completely new, unknown territory. He embarks journey only to find out that not all the friendships are here to stay, that his life journey of an LGBTI person might be inherently different than of those who grew up with him, but especially to understand how to lead an authentic and fulfilled life of a truly adult person.
