Range of activities: The Slovak Film Institute is the only national archive, supporting and research performing institution in the field of cinematography in Slovakia. It collects, preserves and protects the national cinematographic heritage and makes it accessible to public. It functions as an administrator of the film archive of a particular importance, as it archives unique documentation materials, photographs and posters. It executes production rights for distribution and further use of Slovak film works produced by exclusively state based organizations and evaluates these rights through the its commercial activities. SFI is a member of the International Association of Film Archives (FIAF) since April 2001. The National Cinematographic Centre is based under the administration of the SFI and it consists of Film Events Department, Editorial Department and Audiovisual Information Centre. It focuses on concentrating and providing information and services related to Slovak cinematography; on presenting of the Slovak film at home and abroad. It supports presentations of foreign films in Slovakia and it supervises publishing of general as well as specialized filmologic publications. The only specialized professional library in the field of cinematography in Slovakia is based in SFI as well as its related videotheque. Film monthly Film.sk is published at the Editorial Department and there are five selected editions of books as well as Slovak film on DVDs edition published at SFI.
