MEDIA Programme of the European Union
The MEDIA Programme entered into force in January 2007 with a total budget of 755 M € for the years 2007-2013 and aims at strenghtening the competitiveness of the European audiovisual industry with a series of support measures dealing with:
- the training of professionals,
- the development of production projects and companies,
- the distribution of cinematographic works and audiovisual programmes,
- the promotion of cinematographic works and audiovisual programmes,
- the support for audiovisual festivals.
MEDIA Programme also supports pilot projects and has a special support scheme for i2i Audiovisual.
As per 1/1/2007 the participating countries are: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Austria, Portugal, Finland, Sweden, UK, Island, Norway, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Malta, Hungary, Bulgaria, Switzerland and Romania.

MEDIA Desk Slovakia
MEDIA Desk Slovakia is a part of the Slovak Film Institute, financed by the state budget financing and the European Commission. The office was open on April 1, 2003. It works to ensure distribution of information on MEDIA Programme, and their availability in a Slovak translation in printed and electronic forms, preparation and accomplishment of promotion programmes, then to notify of individual deadlines, provide administrative assistance to project applicants, offer advisory services and information on terms and conditions concerning the programmes in coordination with MEDIA Programme headquarters and other partners abroad.
