Keď začne pracovať v Gruzínsku, „ideológovia“ sa ho snažia umlčať. Boja sa totiž, že jeho práca nie je v súlade s pravidlami. Vzhľadom na ich odhodlanie sa Nikolas rozhodne opustiť svoju domovinu a odísť do Francúzska, krajiny slobody a demokracie. No tento „milosrdný stav“ netrvá dlho. Nicolas is an artist, a filmmaker, whose sole concern is to express himself and who everyone wants to reduce to silence. When he first starts out in Georgia, the “ideologists” seek to gag him, concerned that his work does not comply with the rules. In the face of their determination, Nicolas leaves his homeland for France - the land of freedom and democracy. But the “state of grace” will not last long. |

Otar IOSSELIANI (1934)
Otar Iosseliani sa narodil v hlavnom meste Gruzínska, Tbilisi. Tu začal študovať na Štátnom konzervatóriu, ktoré ukončil v roku 1952. V roku 1961 ukončil štúdium na Štátnom inštitúte kinematografie (VGIK) v Moskve s diplomom z filmovej réžie. V roku 1966 režíroval svoj prvý hraný film Keď padá lístie (Giorgobistve), ktorý sa v roku 1968 premietal na Filmovom festival v Cannes počas Týždňa filmových kritikov, a získal cenu FIPRESCI. Po úspechu filmu Pastorále (Pastorali) na Berlínskom filmovom festivale 1982 sa režisér presťahoval do Francúzska, kde v roku 1984 nakrútil film Milenci luny (Les Favoris de la Lune). Film získal Zvláštnu cenu poroty na Benátskom filmovom festivale. Zostal vo Francúzsku aj po rozpade Sovietskeho zväzu. Nakrútil dokumentárny film Iba Gruzínsko (Seule Georgie, 1994) a po ňom sardonický a alegorický film Lúpežníci: Kapitola VII (Brigands – Chapitre VII, 1996) a Jesenné záhrady (Jardins en automne, 2006).
Otar Iosseliani was born in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, where he studied at the State Conservatoire and graduated in 1952. In 1961 he graduated from the State Film Institute (VGIK) in Moscow with a degree in film direction. In 1966 he directed his first feature film Giorgobistve which was presented in the Critics' Week at the 1968 Cannes Film Festival, winning a FIPRESCI award. Following Pastorali's success at the 1982 Berlin Film Festival, the director moved to France where in 1984 he made Les Favoris de la Lune. The film was distinguished by a Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival. After the disintegration of the Soviet Union he continued to work in France, where he made the documentary Seule Georgie (1994) followed by the sardonic and allegorical Brigands - Chapitre VII in 1996 and Jardins en automne in 2006.
