After Annamaria (12), a Roma, wins a race dressed in ballerinas, coach
Norbert (35) agrees to train her. After initial struggles with hereditary poverty, Annamaria wins the National Championship. When Norbert finally realizes he is responsible for her on and off track, it is too late. She is pregnant. Norbert tries to help, but is overpowered by her family and the media that follow her every step. Annamaria has a miscarriage and withdraws contact. But he keeps on hoping to train her once again.

Potom, čo rómske dievča Annamaria (12) vyhrá preteky v balerínkach, tréner Norbert (35) súhlasí, že ju bude trénovať. Po počiatočných bojoch s chudobou v rodine Annamaria vyhrá národné majstrovstvá. Keď si Norbert konečne uvedomí, že je za ňu zodpovedný na trati aj mimo nej, je neskoro. Annamaria je tehotná. Norbert chce pomôcť, no je porazený jej rodinou a médiami, ktoré ju sledujú na každom kroku. Annamaria potratila a preruší kontakt s Norbertom. Ten však dúfa, že ju ešte raz bude cvičiť.
