Jan is a veterinarian in his sixties getting tired of life. The suicide of his father-in-law who lost his will to live is the last drop to his depressive state of mind. Jan realizes that he is following in his footsteps and if he doesn´t do anything soon, he will end up the very same way. At first, he flees mentally into himself, later physically as well. He sets out on a journey to fulfill something like the dream of his life.
Besides Jan´s quest for freedom, we follow the marriages of his two daughters. Each of them approaches their partner in a radically distinct way, which is reflected in the quality of their relationships.

Film rozpráva príbeh šesťdesiatnika Jana, veterinára, ktorého unavuje život . Poslednou kvapkou v jeho depresívnom stave je dobrovoľná smrť svokra, ktorý prišiel o chuť žiť. Jano si uvedomuje, že je na rovnakej ceste, že už nechce ísť ďalej vo vychodených koľajach, a keď nič neurobí, skončí ako on. Najprv uteká duševne, uzatvára sa sám do seba, a potom aj fyzicky. Vydáva sa na cestu, aby si splnil niečo ako celoživotný sen. Okrem Janovej cesty na slobodu sledujeme aj manželstvá jeho dvoch dcér, ktorých prístup k partnerom je úplne odlišný. Tomu však zodpovedá aj kvalita ich vzťahov.
