Three Decades of Slovak Cinema in Taipei

Slovakia Film Festival commences on Friday, October 14, 2016 in Taipei (Taiwan); the event will continue until Sunday, October 30. The Festival is organized and the films from the archive of Slovak Film Institute were selected by Slovak Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei, in co-operation with Woolloomooloo Moonshiner Cinema, also the site of the event.

The Office's selection of seven films represents decades from 1970's till 1990' and offers a look into Slovak cinema in its variability: it includes two animation films of Victor Kubal, Brigand Jurko (1976) and Bloody Lady (1980), comedy Sweet Troubles by Juraj Herz (1984), Dušan Rapoš's music film about puppy love The Fountain for Suzanne (1985), bitter comedy-comment on regimes's swaps and evolutions in former Czechoslovakia by Juraj Jakubisko Sitting on the Branch I Am Fine (1989), drama about two World War 2 refugees A Path Across the Danube by Miloslav Luther (1989), and the feature debut of Martin Šulík, drama about political and private changes after the 1989, Tenderness (1991).

Aside from the interesting offer of the films, the visitors of Woolloomooloo Moonshiner, where the Festival takes place, are most welcome to the exhibition of the Slovak film posters, as well as the presentations - talks with the Taiwanese about their experiences of Slovakia and Slovak culture, taking place every Saturday during the event.
